5. Writing Workshop Persuasive Essay
• The objective of a persuasive essay is to convince the audience or reader to agree with your opinion or point of view.
Examples of persuasive writing are newspapers, advertisements, speeches, etc.
A perfect example is a TV commercial, where the sole purpose of an ad is to convince you to buy a certain product.
That is the same idea that a persuasive essay has, you are trying to convince the reader that your idea is the best one. If you do a good job, when he/she finishes reading your essay, he/she will be convinced.
1. PREWRITING
First you have to choose your topic. In this case you are going to think of a problem.
You can choose:
1. Ban School Uniforms!
Try to persuade your principal to ban school uniforms.
Think of how great it would be to wear whatever you would like to school. Think of the reasons you dislike uniforms.
What would the school gain by letting you wear your own clothes? Add details so the reader accepts your beliefs.
