WrItInG WorKshop. Writing an e-mail.
In the computer era we live today, e-mails are a way to communicate between friends, clients, corporations, etc.
In the business world it is a way to be fast, and efficient, you are able to send information to your neighbor or a client in another continent, in seconds.
The same as letters we have different types of e-mails. a) friendly b) business
• Friendly e-mails are the ones you write to someone you know well. • The business e-mail is the one you write in a more formal tone, to a client, a corporation, your boss, etc.
Here are a few tips to consider when writing a business e-mail
1. Subject. This is the title of the e-mail. Remember the recipient will decide if he/she opens the e-mail mostly by what the subject says. If it doesn’t have a subject it is very likely that it won’t get opened.
• Be precise and meaningful.
• Avoid subjects that have no meaning to the recipient as:
Hi! Great news! Important!!
• Instead use:
Interview request
2. Greeting. This will depend on how well you know the person, it could be: Dear. Mr. Smith or Dr. Johnson
3. Be concise. E-mails are meant to be precise and brief. Decide on what your main subject for writing is and write just a few details about it. Your first sentence should state the main purpose and the last one should ask for whatever should happen next.
