Greek Mythology
What is mythology?
Mythology is a group of legends generally talking about their ancestors, history, or heroes. Myths are stories that are usually intended to explain things, like lightning, rain, and (one of the most used) seasons. There are signs of mythology everywhere.
The most famous myths are the Greek and Egyptian.
They believed their Gods were the reason for their good or bad fortune. And in many cases these gods had human form. The Greek’s daily life was highly influenced by their beliefs.
Greek gods were considered very powerful and they were worshipped, but they weren’t perfect. Hera was very jealous, Zeus had a fiery temper, Hermes was a thief, and Hephaestus was crippled. The gods were actually rivaled by the Titans. Zeus (king of the gods) along with Hera (who is his sister and wife), Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, and Demeter were sons of Kronos, a Titan, who by far overpowered them. He was only defeated by drinking poison unknowingly. He was then cut up with his own scythe and dropped into the deepest pit of the Underworld, as Kronos had done to his father.
Zeus ruled the sky, Poseidon ruled the sea, and Hades ruled the Underworld. They were the main gods, but Zeus was the most powerful. There were also a few other gods, like Athena (goddess of wisdom), Hestia (goddess of home), Aphrodite (goddess of love), Ares (god of war) Apollo (god of the sun and music), Artemis (goddess of hunting), etc. There are also a few minor gods
