Writing Workshop. Research Report
Following the writing process you will write a research report about “The Rainforest”
PREwRITING:
1. Gather information about your topic using several sources (internet, books, newspapers, magazines). Use index cards to write questions and their answers. Add the information that you find most interesting. Also, remember to write the bibliography of each source you will need it at the end of your report so you can cite your sources appropriately.
2. Be careful with the sources you choose, some information in the internet is not reliable. Investigate the sources and their qualifications.
3. When you have enough information, start writing your outline. Start with your thesis, then write all the main ideas you will include in your paper, put them in the order you want them to appear in your final report.
It is important that you paraphrase, this means you rewrite what the author is saying in your own words. Remember you have to cite the source.
4. Try to add the details that will support the main ideas.
Example:
In this report we will prove that ............ (INTRODUCTION)
The body of your report will be formed by writing the main ideas and details.

a) Detail #1 Supports the thesis. b) Detail #2 Use facts
c) Detail # 3
Main idea #2
You can write as many main ideas and detail paragraphs as you think are needed to support your thesis, but they need to have a clear, logical organization.
