USCG SERVICE TIME-LINE
28 January 1915
President Wilson signed into law the Act to Create the Coast Guard thus combining the civilian Life-Saving Service and the military Revenue Cutter Service.
14 U.S.C. which states “The Coast Guard as established shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all Times.”
1932
The bureau of Navigation was combined with the Steamboat Inspection Service to form the Bureau of Navigation and Steamboat Inspection later renamed to the Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation in 1936
01 July 1939
U S Light House Service merged with the United States Coast Guard.
1942
Functions of the Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation relating to merchant vessel inspection, safety of life at sea, and merchant mariners were transferred to the USCG.
