GRAB A MAP AND HEAD FOR THE HILLS FOR A FEAST OF SOUTHERN DELIGHTS
MONROE-WEST MONROE
CELEBRATED CHEF CORY BAHR
Chef Cory Bahr, a renowned chef and Next Food Network Star finalist, opened Parish Restaurant in the fall of 2018 in downtown Monroe.
Bahr’s focus on transforming local ingredients into flavorful, simple cuisine quickly established Parish as a staple in the dining scene of
Monroe-West Monroe.
Bahr expanded his culinary vision with the addition of Standard Coffee Co. in downtown Monroe. this coffee shop boasts his signature
excellence. Step inside for cool vibes and an impressive menu selection. Order The Standard for a mix of espresso, milk, vanilla, and honey. Or
try the Vietnamese Iced Coffee for a delicious chilled option. Grab one of their baked goods while you’re there. The lemon ricotta scone is the
unlikely combination you didn’t know you needed.
LOUISIANA’S FIRST MEADERY
In the mood for mead? This alcoholic beverage is made with fermented honey. The first and only meadery in the state of Louisiana, this local
shop in West Monroe was created by two disabled veterans. They use locally-sourced ingredients, including their own homegrown honey! Two
Warriors Meadery offers several unique flavors to try, including Bayou Blues Berry and the Lemon Zinger. Don’t forget to try their 12th-century
mead recipe Oden’s Love. Stop by their tasting room, and get a few bottles to bring home!
COMFORT FOOD
Powered by a love for downtown Monroe and good ole southern food, James and Mary Traylor opened the Kitchen Restaurant in 1984. The
Kitchen Restaurant quickly became a landmark Monroe eatery with fan favorites like chicken & dumplings, red beans and rice, and a full
breakfast grill. From working men, the backbone of the business, to families, the Kitchen has remained a loyal lunch spot for many.
The fun doesn’t stop at the food though! Part of the fun is looking over the hundreds of antiques, knick-knacks, and memorabilia that line the
walls. Take a look at vintage advertising posters, Coca-Cola collectibles, photos of downtown Monroe, antique coffee pots, and more!
DINNER WITH A VIEW
If you just want to enjoy the view, there are plenty of places to sit back and relax while the water flows by. Several local restaurants, like Trapp’s,
Cotton, Miro’s, and the Warehouse No. 1 offer great views of the Ouachita River. You can also enjoy the view from the Downtown RiverMarket.
