WEST BATON ROUGE
Come discover why the early Acadian people settled here almost
three hundred years ago! For centuries West Baton Rouge Parish has
benefited from the Mississippi River with fertile land adjacent to the
river as well as transportation routes for its growing marine industry.
An agricultural parish until the 1960’s, the area is now home to one of
the largest deep-water ports in the world, along with major chemical
and manufacturing corporations. Eventually industrial giants such as
ExxonMobil and Dow Chemical would reap the benefits of work eth-
ics descended from the Cajun people and would grow to produce
millions of dollars in goods from sugar to petroleum products. West
Baton Rouge offers an inviting combination of powerful industry,
metropolitan accessibility, and the peace and security of small-town
living. Our community is a beautiful example of “work hard – play
hard.” Festivals, food, and fun are on tap at our four major events
throughout the year. We are home to the only kite festival in Louisiana,
Kite Fest Louisiane,’ which is held at the end of April each year.
Followed by Oldies but Goodies Fest in September that features a
BBQ cookoff and an antique car show. Sugar fest is an October event
showcasing performances, demonstrations with Louisiana folk art-
ists, musicians, and a look inside the sugar industry, the accredited
West Baton Rouge Museum offers educational tours throughout the
year. Finally light up your holidays with the festive Jingle Jeepin’
Parade and Market! West Baton Rouge Parish is your gateway to
history, preservation, and education.
We are fortunate to have TWO Mississippi River bridges, with TWO
major universities that are only a short commute away. Cross over the
Huey P Long bridge and students are minutes away from the
Southern University campus, celebrating 145 years of education,
home of the Jaguars and convenient to both the Baton Rouge Airport
and Downtown Baton Rouge. Students can also travel over the
Horace Wilkinson bridge to the home of the fighting tigers at
Louisiana State University, a Baton Rouge tradition since 1860.
So, take a journey across the river and see how we’re bridging the gap
between history and hospitality. Please visit our website for additional
information on accommodations, attractions & our local restaurants
or give us a call directly to rent one of our beautiful meeting rooms for
your next visit.
