FROGMORE COTTON PLANTATION & GINS
A visit to the Vidalia/Natchez area is incomplete without experiencing
all facets of our Delta lifestyle: gracious town homes of the Natchez
elite and the cottonfields that created the wealth. Follow your guide
on an interactive tour learning Louisiana history and music not
learned in the classroom.
Just across the river from Natchez, Frogmore Cotton Plantation &
Gins was selected by Rand McNally as a “MUST SEE SITE.”
Professional videos, slave culture via voices of former slaves, trials and
triumphs of freedom, music originating in the cotton fields, and
today’s high-tech operation are why visitors comment that Frogmore
is the highlight of their trip. The guided tour includes eight of the 19 historical buildings on site, including a National Register steam
cotton gin, furnished cabins, and an authentic plantation store.
Experience picking cotton by hand and then contrast the old with the computerized cotton gin. Tour includes cotton trivia, worldwide
production, seed by-products, and botanical aspects of cotton.
Optional tour includes life under martial law along the Mississippi River from Natchez to New Orleans. The Plantation Civil War:
Challenges & Changes focuses on the plight of women and children under martial law.
A power point highlights causes of the war, and an audio walking tour reveals those four years.
