VERNON PARISH – LOUISIANA’S LEGEND COUNTRY
Louisiana’s Legend Country boasts of outlaws and bandits during its
No Man’s Land days of old, but more recently, we are known as the
training ground that turns out the brave men and women who serve in
our United States Armed Forces. Groups can visit Fort Polk, originally
established as Camp Polk in 1941 during the Great Louisiana Maneuvers.
Your group will find real Louisiana, with its small-town museums,
fabulous festivals, outdoor recreational opportunities, centuries of
history, culture, stories, and legends, and the people who make it all
come alive. Stop for lunch or a snack at one of the Gas Station Eats
locations.

Along with these historic and natural treasures, the outdoor recreation throughout the area is as legendary as the stories. Geocaching, hiking,
horseback riding, ATV riding and biking along beautiful wilderness trails is an adventure worth taking. Waterways are plentiful for boating,
fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Local outfitters can provide your needs for equipment and guides if needed.
