  Quebec today is the second most populated province in Canada with close to 8 million habitants and is the only francophone region in all of North America. In 1980
the independent referendum liberated by Rene Levesque lead to Toronto replacing Montreal
as the economic capital of the country. Quebec continues being a very industrial province with an abundance
of natural resources such
as, the lactose industry, the mining industry, and the hydro electrical potential. The province name Quebec comes from an Inuit dialect Kebek and means narrow.
Returning to history...
It was more than 5 years of convulsed political topics where 5 different coalitions tried to govern Canada. Reading about this passionate history is where you’ll find that George Brown is not the founder of a college but instead one of the politicians alongside George Étienne Cartier and John A. Macdonald that created a larger confederation that would include all the British North American colonies to form what we today know as Canada. Macdonald was the one to actively promote the Union Act and present it to the British Parliament in 1866. On the first of July 1867 the Dominion of Canada was created.
Sir John A. Macdonald was elected the first Canadian Prime Minister and is considered the founding father of the confederation, as well as someone who tried to bring the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, later British Columbia, P.E.I and the Northern territories as part of the Canadian Federation. These brief historic facts we have decided to accompany by some Canadian culture facts, historic events or people that help
demonstrate why we feel proud to be part of Canada.
The Canadian Parliament is made of the Crown (The Queen and the Governor, who represents her), the Senate (150 representatives elected by the Prime Minister), and the House of Commons (308 members of parliament elected by the people from the 308 election districts.
The Canadian Flag has been official since February 15th 1965 and is known
as “The Maple Leaf”. It was the
result of the committee that
studied the change of flag and was promoted by the Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson at the time.
The logo for Canada’s 100th in 1967 was multiple triangles creating the maple leaf and it symbolized the human development.
For the 100th the Canadian population
was around
20 million
habitants at the time.
Terrance Stanley more known as Terry Fox was a basketball player who suffered of bone cancer and had to have his
right leg amputated. He became famous for creating and running the marathon of hope to raise funds for cancer research hoping for each Canadian to donate one dollar. His objective was to run 8000 km across Canada coast to coast, however his health deteriorated during the journey and he passed away at 23 years. He is a huge symbol
of hope and union for all of Canada.
The Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield was the first Canadian to walk in space and was the commander of the International Space Station. He was a combat pilot and engineer for the Canadian Air Forces. He became famous in 2013 by taking pictures in space and sharing them on social media such as
