200 millions years and a few days ago, all the con�nents were
attached together. A�er a while they started to separate from each other, North
America and Europe formed a land called LAURASIA, while South America, Africa,
Australasia formed an another one called GONDWANALAND.

In those times animals appeared and evolved, living on land, in the sea, may
be even in your garden too (but you did not know about it because you were not
born yet, not even your great great-great-great-great-great-etc----grand
father!)

Those creatures were big lizards like (even though some of them were very
small in fact) and were known as DINOSAURS and their friends. They ruled the
Earth for nearly 150 millions years and suddenly (on a geological �me scale of
course) disappeared a mere 65 millions years ago, just like that. No forwarding
address, noOoothing! The impact on Earth from a giant meteorite could have
caused their extinction.

What we call DINOSAURS were not just one kind of animal but were a
family of creatures with similar characteristics (just like for Mammals: A cow is

different from an elephant, but both are mammals.)

Then again, not all rep�lian creatures living in those times were
DINOSAURS.

DINOSAURS had long legs tucked UNDER their body, contrary to lizards,
for example, which have SPRAWLING legs, DINOSAURS with legs lived only on

land, but some DINOSAURS stayed in the sea and developed fins like legs which
allowed them to swim.
