Manual Handling





     • Avoid manual handling tasks wherever possible. Change systems
         of working to avoid manual handling, change materials for lighter

         products;

     • Where manual handling cannot be avoided a Manual Handling

         Assessment shall be prepared by a competent person;


     • Anyone involved with manual handling tasks shall be suitably
         trained;


     • Use mechanical lifting aids to reduce the risk of injury where
         manual handling cannot be avoided. Consider the use of goods
         lifts;


     • Anyone using lifting aids shall be suitably trained;


     • All manual handling tasks must be suitably planned taking account
         of the individuals capabilities, the load, the task and the working
         environment;


     • Avoid narrow access, different floor levels, steep slopes, dusty

         atmospheres, low temperatures, excessive heat. Check the weight
         of load to be lifted and the environment of the task;


     • Persons with a history of back injuries or pregnant workers should
         not be involved in lifting operation. Separate Risk Assessment

         required;
