                                         “  Oh J ”  cried  Wilifred,  iL what  ’cute,

                                      what lovely little  dogs these  are.        What
                                      kind  of dogs  are  they ? ”

                                         “  Now,  see  here,  that  s just  too  thin,”
                                      said  the  suspicious  Fullerton.  “ You

                                      have  pretended  to  be  afraid  of  those
                                      dogs  too  long  to  take  this  sudden  inter­

                                      est  in  ’em,  You  are  trying  to  throw
                                      me  off  the  scent,  but  I  will  have  an

                                      answer.      Now what  have you  done with
                                      that  paper?  ”

                                           I      have n’t  touched  It.      What  pretty
                                      brown  eyes  this  dog  has,  and  how  affec­

                                      tionate  his  little  brother  Is J    See,  he  Is
                                      kissing  my  hand.”

                                         Wilifred  had  flung  herself  down  up­
                                      on  the  floor,  and  had  both  dogs  in

                                      her  lap ;  but  suddenly  she  felt  herself
                                      lifted  up  by  no  very  gentle  hand:  and
