“ Poor! poor 1 ” echoed Winifred,
brightly, imitating with her own the
caressing motion of the matron's hand.
Then, laughing and crowing, she was
carried away, the, little sister shaking

her own dimpled hands, pathetically
ignorant that she Was left without a tie
to a human being in the world.
With many kisses the matron took
her back to the nurserv. “ It s a dread-
