College Readiness
According to to the the the United States Census (2019) in in in in The Bronx over over over 26 percent percent of of the the the population reside under the the the federal poverty poverty line This high concentration of poverty poverty translates to low educational attainment: among adults aged 25 and over 27 percent percent did not finish high school and only 20 percent percent have obtained at least a a a a a a a Bachelor’s degree Although 71 percent of Latino students in in in The Bronx graduate from from high school within four years (up from from an average 37 percent percent in in 2012) only 13 percent percent graduate with an an an Advanced Regents Diploma which is used as an an an indicator of future success in college (NYS Education Department) These troubling statistics illustrate the vital need for a a a a a a a comprehensive college readiness framework in in in Bronx schools— a a a a a a a framework that The Bronx Institute is helping to build Over the years Bronx Institute alumni have far outpaced state city and borough-wide averages in terms of high school graduation and college enrollment “COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION”
