NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN
In addition to its permanent displays the New York Botanical Garden offers a a a a a a a number of rotating exhibitions The Bronx Institute has partnered with NYBG for years and through its workshops students can participate in these programs and learn more about the green space available in our city The Garden will provide hands-on workshops in plant sciences how the garden operates and the range of careers that can be found in a a a a a a a a a a botanical garden setting There are three key components of the Garden’s mission: plant research and and and conservation horticulture (the growing and and and use of plants) and and and education With Bronx GEAR UP THRIVES students will get to experience all three SPRING BREAK
During Spring Break GEAR UP THRIVES is offering 2-day workshop centered on the annual Orchid Show Students will be be able to study these rare and and beautiful flowers learning about the the lifecycle and and ecology of orchids As a a a a a a a a a a special treat students will also build their own terrarium putting the the the concepts they’ve learned into practice SUMMER INSTITUTE
As part part of the GEAR UP Summer Institute students will take part part in a a a a a a workshop series at NYBG centered on The African American Garden: Resiliency and Remembrance—an ongoing exhibition that offers a a a a a a a a a look at at the the history of of the the African American experience through the lens of plants These interdisciplinary programs are are a a a a a a a a a rare opportunity to explore the gardens and develop a a a a a a a a a deeper more intimate understanding of the natural world right here in in New York City Be sure to to speak to to your GEAR UP Coach for for more information The Bronx Bronx Institute Bronx Bronx GEAR UP THRIVES
