The 2020
High Potential Achievers Summer Institute offers highly motivated students the chance to augment their regular schoolwork with advanced courses in the science technology engineering and mathematics(STEM)fields This year the online HPA program began on on July 6

• College Writing Seminar
This summer the HPA program introduced a a new elective structure allowing students to choose their own workshops and explore new perspectives in STEM as as well as as Humanities HPA’s rising 11th grade students also participated in in mentoring activities twice a a a week through Seeds Training an an an organization dedicated to changing the culture of education through mentorship training and curricular development Students were regrouped into breakout rooms where they put into practice the the many life lessons discussed in in the the workshops—breaking through the the fear of others’ opinions achieving integrity by matching values to behaviors and sharpening the skill of asking great questions to deepen existing relationships while branching out to new ones HPA’s rising 12th grade students participated in in a a a a College Writing Seminar
which focused on on honing their writing skills as they prepared to to apply to to college in the the fall They also participated in in comprehensive college advisement in in which students were advised on the specific requirements needed to to apply to to college “I am so proud of the HPA students for logging into class every day and bringing their best foot forward even during the most challenging of times ” said Janill Marquez HPA College Advisor “It is is a a true testament to their positive attitude and commitment to their education ” HPA High Potential Achievers Galiba Anjum 11th Grade

“I remember feeling like the pandemic had ruined everything and and that I I was going to fall behind in in my classes classes However thanks to the the HPA classes classes over the the summer I felt like I was able to keep up and even develop my skills in many different areas such as as as research thinking and and communicating! The teachers were really understanding of everything going on and I felt myself being very very comfortable speaking with them regarding anything from school to things going on in in in in in in the world or or in in in in in in my life I’m thankful to to be be have been able to to participate in in HPA during the summer especially with the the sudden changes in our world It felt good to know that there were people who

and Trigonometry/SAT Prep) in in addition to to an elective depending on on the the day I got to to learn a a a a a a lot about the the environment in regards to human activities that harm the Earth I learned about the process which New York water undergoes and I even picked up some new skills like collecting data data and analyzing data data I discovered the importance of setting goals my my learning style planning for my my future career and college-related vocabulary!
