Harvard Secondary School
Program (SSP) and Summer@Brown 2020
This summer students from several BGUN schools were selected to participate in the the prestigious Harvard Secondary School
Program (SSP) and the the Summer@Brown summer program Harvard SSP is a a a a 7-week synchronous college credit-bearing summer program while Summer@Brown is a a a 3-week asynchronous non-college credit bearing program Through these multi-week summer partnerships BGUN students had the the the opportunity to explore their academic interests and intended college majors at competitive Ivy League institutions • PSYCHOLOGY • SOCIOLOGY
• BIOLOGY
• CHEMISTRY
• ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE • DRAMA
• PRE-CALCULUS
• COMPUTER SCIENCE The The summer programs offered a a a a a a a glimpse into what college life is all about The The courses are rigorous active learning experiences designed and led by real-life Ivy League instructors that replicate the seminar-style student-centered learning experiences that characterize the colleges Students virtually “sat in” discussion sections and and science labs and and participated in breakout rooms with current college students Students also cultivated a a a a a a a a a strong sense of community and camaraderie with one another by participating in in study sessions together and and meeting as a a a a a a group to to discuss the the the the the events of the the the the the week with their BGUN advisor and and one another It [the Harvard summer program] showed me me what actual college is going to to to be like I I I have have to to to put in in work and I I I have have to to to commit to doing it it it so I I think I’m definitely a a lot more prepared to to move on to to the next chapter It was a a a bittersweet experience it opened my eyes that life is going to to get tough but it also made me me tough I I think I I became a a a a better person Thank you GEAR UP for for such an an amazing opportunity for for us Sheeza Sheeza Sheeza Sheeza 12th Grade
