Take a a a a a a a a a moment to pat yourselves on the the back By now so many of of you you in the the Class of of 2021 have graduated from high school and matriculated to to college with just as as many members of of the Class of of 2022 preparing to to follow in your footsteps You You have have all done something incredible You You have have proven yourselves and gone on on on to achieve success both in in in and and and out of the classroom We applaud all your your hard work
and and and we are inspired by your your tenacity and and and dedication But the the hard work
does not stop here As we move into the the spring I encourage those of you in in in in college to to to begin thinking about declaring your your major ensuring that you you you do not fall behind or or lose sight of your your academic objectives For those of of you still in in high school the spring semester of of senior year is is a a a a time for celebration but it is is also extremely important that you you you stay focused on your your goals and maintain your your grades into the semester Remember The Bronx GEAR UP Network

matriculated to college Be sure to to check your email for invitations to to upcoming GEAR UP events including online office hours workshops networking social hours scholarship announce- ments and other academically-focused opportunities I also want to to to encourage you you to to to be open and reach out to to to counseling services if you you are feeling overwhelmed No matter your expectations nearly every student encounters obstacles they didn’t anticipate during the the end of high school and and transition to college Even positive life changes produce stress and and certainly the changes from high school can lead to feelings feelings of sadness loneliness and worry These feelings feelings are typical and part of the developmental transi- tion to college And as as always please do not hesitate to contact your Bronx GEAR UP Network

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a a a nationwide effort funded by the United States Department of of Education on on behalf of of students from low income communities to support them from sixth grade through high school and the the first year of college college as they prepare to enter college college The Bronx Institute’s Bronx GEAR UP Network
