THE ACHIEVEMENTS
Four-Year Colleges/Universities Attended by Bronx Institute Alumni
Impact on Educators
• 355 teachers studied innovative teaching strategies, in collaboration with Lehman College’s Department of Middle and High School Education. These teachers attained state certification for English Language Learner (ELL) instruction, helping to combat a severe shortage of such educators in The Bronx.
• The Institute worked with the New York State Education Department to develop a comprehensive guide to ELL education, providing resources to 27,000 teachers and administrators across New York State. • 1,500 teachers have participated in Bronx Institute professional development workshops, trainings, and
conferences to support the education of Bronx students.
• Through The Bronx Institute, 2,200 Bronx teachers attended conferences featuring nationally renowned
ELL educators and researchers.
Impact on Parents
• As part of its work with the New York State Education Department, The Bronx Institute developed the “Road Map to College,” a guide to the college-going process for ELLs. This guide is being translated into eight languages and distributed to over 300,000 students and families throughout the state.
• Through collaboration with BronxNet—a public, educational, and government-access television channel—The Bronx Institute has produced specialized educational video programming for families. BronxNet has a viewership of 275,000 households throughout The Bronx.
• 1,250 parents attended college admissions workshops at Lehman College, designed to support parental involvement in the college section and application process.
