YOUNGSTERS IN UGANDA BENEFITTING FROM DONATIONS FROM UNDY
The club have linked up with the Kafunjo Community Project - a grass roots initiative that was set up with the aim of providing free food and education to the children of Kafunjo in Uganda.
The Monmouthshire club’s charitable arm - Undy Boots - allows people to donate their old boots which can be bought and the money raised is donated to charity.
The donations originally aimed to support local causes in Wales but when the club heard about the Kafunjo Community Project, they have ensured that old shirts and boots are now given a new lease of life thousands of miles away.
As well as sending football kit, Undy
continued supporting the project during
the Covid-19 pandemic when Uganda
entered a nationwide lockdown. With the project rapidly running out of basic food supplies and struggling to feed the local children, the club made also made monetary donations.
Karl Luton, who is head of junior football at Undy, recently held a video call with those part of the project in Uganda to find out how the generous donations from the football club have benefitted them.
Bruno Biryomumaisho is involved with the Kafunjo Community Project and explained: “The project was started here to bring up children who have been in pain or neglected. We are living in a remote area where there is no
chance of education,
medical care, food and shelter. The project is all about bringing people together so that the little children who have been neglected can have a better future in their lives. I love football so much and because I have so many dreams and see what’s happening around the world, I said ‘let’s start a football team to bring the young boys and girls together so they can love each other’.”
