THE ROOF SYSTEM

          # 1 Most Important Step
Hire a professional Roofing Contractor. Action Roofing and Siding has been providing
homeowners with superior performing roof systems for decades. The following methods ensure
an excellent looking and reliable roof system.

          DECK PREPARATION
The existing roofing material is removed. To warrant the integrity of the new roofing materials
being installed, we confirm the roof deck is a stable, smooth and a solid surface. All damaged
roof decking is replaced as needed.

          FLASHING
Edging Detail - We recommend Drip Edge flashing to be installed at the eaves and rake ends of the
roof surface. This detail directs water away from the roof edge and fascia. Drip Edge reduces the
opportunity for water to “wick” back up on to the roof deck. This layer of flashing adds further
          protection to your roof system.

Valley Flashing - Directs water downward where two roof planes intersect.
Step & Wall Flashing - Used where the roof and walls intersect.

Other Flashing - Additional flashing types are unique in design and function. When the flashing
assemblies are installed correctly, by our qualified and experienced installers, you will enjoy a
water-tight roof system for years to come.

          EAVE PROTECTION
A quality Eave Protection provides the second layer of defense on your roof eaves. We offer non-
self-adhered SBS “Base Sheet” as a standard, however we highly recommend a fully self-adhered
SBS “Ice & Water” membrane which seals around nail penetrations, adding an extra degree of
          protection.

Ice & Water Membrane is especially beneficial in preventing infiltration of moisture caused by ice-
damning effects, typical in the freeze and thaw cycles of the Alberta climate and winter weather
conditions. To ensure a fully effective installation of Ice & Water Membrane, calculations are
necessary. Measuring from the eave edge to the interior wall and beyond, factored by roof pitch
and installation specifications, we will determine the applicable number of feet to be installed up
          the roof slope.

          UNDERLAYMENT
We recommend the use of a breathable product to ensure moisture is not trapped between the
roof deck and shingles. ACTION applies this layer of felt paper to the entire roof deck, as a
standard on every roof system. This is an additional benefit to our customers, providing an
upgraded Class A fire rating to every ACTION roof.

For further protection Ice and Water Membrane can be used in conjunction with the basic
underlayment in areas such as valleys, low pitch slopes and technically demanding areas,
          providing added defence.
