anything else, but we must remember how our beds
can smell like our lover is near, perfumed with their body wash and shampoo; how robins sing outside our windows
to wake us gently when the weather warms; a friend’s smile and raucous laugh that brings our mind out of itself; maybe even how the frozen dew looks on a window that has not yet felt the warmth of the sun–
This is all to say that everything feels a little better
when we observe and live in the world around us. We cannot sit on the sidelines in despair and doom and stay unkempt. There is a life to be cared for on our terms and still meaning to our silly little lives, even when this world is ruled by those who do not care for the life they stand on.
