               Worked example 7.2B

                a Write the following percentages as fractions. i 5% ii 83%
                b  Write 20% as:      i  a fraction   ii  a decimal.

                            5
                a  i  5% =   100       5 per cent means 5 out of 100.
                       5    1       5
                      100  =   20     100   can be cancelled by dividing 5 and 100 by 5.
                             83                                   83
                   ii 83% =   100     83 per cent means 83 out of 100   100   cannot be cancelled.
