PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The snow is gone, foals are growing and the show season is here! All of this will involve the same thing for most of us – Percherons and family.
A special thank you to our Past President, Pat Stokes, for his leadership the past two years. We’re glad that he will continue to coordinate the OPHA Percheron Futurity and High Point Four Horse Hitch and Cart programs.
At the AGM in February of this year it was decided to only produce two issues of the Percheron Post. Issues will be mailed the first part of June and the first part of December of each year. Thank you to Susan Davidson for taking over the editorship of the Percheron Post.
The OPHA continues to offer programs to promote the Percheron horse in its many disciplines. As a breeder make sure you take part in the All Ontario Percheron Futurity; as a performance hitch person take part in the Ontario High Point Four Horse Hitch and the High Point Cart; as an up-and-coming showperson, make sure if you are 18 and under you join the Junior Program; if you prefer to use your Percheron to plow; take part in the International Plowing Match where the OPHA presents an award to the top plowperson using Percheron horses. There really is something for everyone.
On a wider front, be sure to take part in the All Canadian Percheron Contest. The OPHA helps to sponsor this event and many Ontario horses have received the honor of All Canadian. The contest also provides lots of free advertising to get your horse(s) seen (in the Percheron Post, on the All Canadian website, the American Percheron News and the Canadian Broadcaster).
So as you can see, the OPHA is moving forward and offers programs for you to participate in, enjoy and/or volunteer to help with. Promoting Percherons benefits all of us who own and work with them. The OPHA offers many opportunities to help put this breed in the public eye but there is no better promotion than allowing others to see this breed involved in activities.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the many equine activities in this province. If anyone is interested in volunteering to help with any of our activities or if I can be of any assistance please let me know.
Erik Davidson
EDITOR’S NOTE
I’m back!! After a three year rest I have decided to take on the editorship of the Percheron Post once again. Thanks to all who have offered words of encouragement and to those who have contributed to this issue. If you have pictures or articles you would like to submit for the next issue make sure to email it to me by November 15, 2015. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in advertising in the Post please contact me. Until next issue.... Susan Davidson
