VOLUNTEER THORNTON
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT I ROGER & JUDY HERVIG
Roger and Judy have served for the past two years as Thornton Snowbusters at two Thornton
homes and are looking forward to continuing this volunteer work in the community this season.
Snowbuster volunteers remove snow during the months of November-April from driveways and
sidewalks of their partnered Thornton resident's home who income qualify based on age or
disability. Snow shovels and safety vests are provided by the city.
Roger retired in 2007 from Jim’s Mobile Inc. (JMI), a telescope manufacturing and sales
company formerly located in Lakewood, CO. Judy also retired in 2007 from the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency after 30 years of a fantastically fun and rewarding career
encompassing Air Quality, Environmental Outreach, Hazardous Waste, Superfund and Tribal
Environmental programs.
In addition to volunteering in their communities, their favorite pastimes are camping, hiking,
downhill/cross country skiing and snowshoeing. As “reverse snowbirds”, they volunteer to
help care for a large black bear population at the Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary in Orr, Minnesota
summer residence. Springtime and new bear cubs are truly a delight in that place!
