Shirlee Akemi Miyake was born in Japan, raised in California and became
an American citizen at age eighteen. The Broomfield artist specializes in
mixed-media. "I’m continuing to develop my own techniques by using old
Japanese newspapers that I dye, cut, stamp, intertwine by incorporating
origami and other handmade papers. I finalize each art piece by adding
details with acrylic paints, inks, etc." Shirlee continues to research & explore
her Japanese heritage and express those “findings” through her artwork.
