This means that AI can outperform humans even in tasks that supposedly demand
‘intuition.’ If you think AI needs to compete against the human soul in terms

of mystical hunches – that sounds impossible. But if AI really needs to compete
against neural networks in calculating probabilities and recognizing

patterns – that sounds far less daunting.
                                                                             [Emphasis added]

In predictive justice and predictive case analysis, AI makes ‘forecast’ basing on

available data to envisage a possible outcome, rather than foretelling or a premonition
of what may come. Without even venturing into testing AI using the Turing test,
                                                                                             47
we know that AI is not a clairvoyant but operate using mathematical and statistical

(such as Bayesian Inference) methods. Perhaps AI can be asked to predict its future
existence; the outcome will be interesting to note.

VII. CLOSING THOUGHTS: OF FLYING CARS

                                      AND JOBS FLYING OFF

As a closing thought, some of us from ‘Generation X’ have grown up mesmerised
by television documentaries and films portraying the year 2000 and beyond to be
an age of scientific advancement where among others, cars can fly and computers can

be held in our palm as well as be carried with us everywhere. Twenty years into the 21
                                                                                              st
century, cars are not flying yet though we already have smartphones that perform like

computers. Some things take time to develop and actualise but others may stay in
the realm of imagination for a while more to come. Technological development is driven
by necessity, such as the creation of smartphones, whereas the need for flying cars

may not yet be a real need for us; we shall see.
The phrase ‘Cogito, ergo sum’ which translates to ‘I am thinking, therefore

I exist’ is attributed to the famous 17 -century philosopher and mathematician
                                                    th

with the question whether machines can think. See <https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/turing-test/>
