FROM OUR SEEKERS
This month in the Seekers room we are initiating a revised curriculum. Over the course of the month we will begin to focus on the repetition of the experiences set out in our learning environment by incorporating the different developmental areas that are vital for our Seekers’ learning.
Repetition is a necessary building block for children at this age and will allow our Seekers to strengthen connections in the brain that help them learn. When children have repeated opportunities to use materials, resources, to engage with new ideas or knowledge to develop their skills and understandings, then learning is likely to be richer, deeper and more meaningful.
Our environments continue to evolve to remain inviting and safe for our Seekers to explore in their own way, targeting all of the key developmental areas.
To support transition times we will have three focused Group Times throughout the day:
Ants in the Apple – Alphabet & Phonics
A language group where we will be focusing daily on the alphabet and phonics which will be explored through the song ”Ants in the Apple". Educators will model language which will encourage our Seekers to interact both verbally and non-verbally as the song is paired with the visual aid of flash cards.
Story Time - Book of the Month!
We will now be focusing on an age-appropriate book every month to expose our Seekers to language and literature. Repetition of the same book for the month will foster a better understanding of the text, illustrations and concepts within.
Physical - Music and Movement
Our playground is where we will have our primary focus on children's physical development catering to all stages of development, whether it be supervised tummy time and mat play to ball games and obstacle courses. We are now incorporating a fun and engaging music and movement experience daily where our Seekers will have the opportunity to be active learners and take responsibility for their physical wellbeing.
We welcome and would appreciate any feedback on our new curriculum and any experiences your child may be involved in at home that we can incorporate into our program! 7
