FROM OUR MINI-EXPLORERS
This month the Mini-Explorers have participated in 5 paintings as part of the March Intentional Teaching Calendar theme: ‘Let’s Get Creative!’ The paintings were created with sponges, hand prints as well as foot prints with many colours of the rainbow and layers upon layers of paint to make a 3D texture.
One of the pieces, ‘Silver Butterfly’ has added pieces of mesh and silver, gold and bronze butterflies dancing through the children's creative ball rolling process, as Sam assisted the children with their designs. In the 'Night Sky’ children placed little white stars over the blue/black sponge clouds. 'Tracks’ was made over a few weeks as the children manoeuvred trucks and cars over the top of the canvas as they produced tyre painted prints, in orange. Then, green footprints and white animal tracks were layered on top of the orange.
The children have been able to choose freely, drawing, painting and creating with a range of open-ended resources. The painting materials and resources have ranged from paint brushes to fingers, to feet to whole hands and sponges, as the children have thought imaginatively about how to present their pieces. These two experiences have been set up daily by Kayla and Lauren, as they have been interacting with the children to build their inspiration.
Rachel and the children have been reusing cardboard boxes and turning them into forts! Helping our educators to construct giant castles, the children then made habitats for some of the toy dinosaurs by adding loose parts to the forts.
Next month's Intentional Teaching interest is 'Sustainability' and we will also celebrate Easter! The children will explore how to turn recycled materials into art or art resources for painting, gluing, stacking and creating.
We’re inviting families to bring in any recycled materials that they think we could use for our sustainability art project. Thank you!
