TODAY IN CBTIS...
Do tortas ring a bell?
Today's article is about the "Tortas Scandal", which
ended with Mr Amaya's resignation.
Economy or Rules
CBTIs regulations state that "selling any good inside the facilities would be
severely punished. In addition, the goods remaining will be confiscated,".
Rules are clear, no sweets or food can be sold within the CBTIs 107. But is this
enough proof to singlehandedly expel a student?
"Tortas Scandal" or "Don Totis" is a very example of those practices. Mr Amaya,
Executive Director for School Services at the time, followed the aforementioned
regulations. Sadly, he abused his power and threatened him with expelling him.
Was that under his capacities?
Abuse of power is common practice amongst teachers. This is not a "unique" or
"special" case. Mr Amaya had no grounds to expel him, as this is not stated on
CBTIs regulations. His actions show their inability to understand students'
situations. Mr Amaya portrayed what's all wrong about the system, their lack of
empathy.
Although regulations should and must be enforced, the student's still can appeal
to one's own judgement, regardless of what rule they broke.
Notwithstanding, they can not use this as an excuse to bypass Regulations. Mr
Amaya singlehandedly threatened him with expelling him, without the consent of
any other teacher or staff. He is now accountable for a greater charge than only
abuse of power.
