                                      PROMPT

In Octopus Escapes Again!, the main character must avoid predators while
preying on other animals to eat. Clever Octopus uses many adaptations,

such as camouflage and an ink cloud, to stay safe once again while
                                    searching for her dinner.

The author creates vivid images in readers’ minds by using descriptive
words to describe the animals’ actions. For example, the author does not

say the octopus eats a crab; instead she says Octopus “sneaks in to grab a
crab.” Readers can picture her quietly, patiently approaching the crab

before she snatches it all of a sudden. Vivid word choices are often used in
poetry, too. Write a poem that tells about Octopus’s day, using your

favorite descriptive action words from the story. Then add one or two
original vivid descriptions of your own, too. Don’t forget to use some of

the Critical Vocabulary words in your writing.
