Lesson 19

               Sports

You’ve got to know the rules to

enjoy watching soccer or you would be
                                                           wonderingwhy those twenty two players

are running around the field. As you know

you need eleven players from each team to
play. There are two sets of 45 minute match.

Within this time, the players kick and pass
around the balls with their feet and other body parts except their arms. Using

their arms accidentally or intentionally, penalty kick will be given by the referee.
For your information, your hands can be used in the throw-in. However, you’d

better watch out for any fouls during the match so that you don’t receive any
yellow or red cards. It can be perilous to your team! Sometimes long distance

shoot can be the shot of the moment, but the corner kick can have a superior
outcome without knowing where the ball would bounce off. So never close your

               eyes when you are heading!

It would be too undemanding if there wasn’t ‘offside rule’. In order not to

be in offside, you have to be in your own half of the field (your half is the half
your goalkeeper is on). Next, you have to be either even with or behind the ball

and never go past the defender. Most importantly, the players need to pass the
ball directly with the perfect timing to other players. Soccer is definitely a team

               sport!
