Connect Your Ideas

Think about an observation you have made recently. Then, state a

hypothesis. What kind of experiment did you do to test your hypothesis?

Example One day, I noticed my hairdryer didn’t work. I thought something was wrong

with my electrical outlet. If so, my other electrical devices would not work either.

I plugged my tablet charger into the outlet to test it, and it worked fine. So I

concluded that the outlet had no problem and that my hairdryer was broken.

Your Own One day, I saw my grandma’s plant grow very big, and I thought that happened

because the plant got a lot of sunlight. I decided to experiment by controlling the

amount of sunlight plants got while growing. I selected two plants of the same

variety and allowed one to grow in a lot of natural sunlight and the other to grow in

the dark. I watered both plants equally, and I kept a record of the growth of each

plant. The plant that got plenty of sunlight grew much taller than the other one

raised in the dark. So I concluded that sunlight had a significant effect on plant growth.
