GENRE STUDY Graphic novels are longer fictional stories told
in comic-strip format.
• Graphic novels tell stories through speech bubbles and
illustrated panels.
• Authors of graphic novels tell the story through the plot—
the main events of the story. The plot includes a conflict, or
problem, and the resolution, or how the problem is solved.
• Some graphic novels include a theme or lesson learned by
the main character.
