PROMPT
In Men of the Woods you read about President Roosevelt’s Civilian Conservation Corps
(CCC). You learned why the president created the program, and you read the personal
stories of young men who participated in the CCC.
Reread the personal stories in the selection. Choose one of the stories and imagine you
are that person. Or, create a character that had some combination of their experiences.
Write a paragraph in the first-person voice, telling your story to your grandchild. Try to
use some of the Critical Vocabulary words in your writing.
