only made up 48 percent of U.S. households.
Experts say one reason for the decrease in the number
of married couples is the poor economy. Many young
people say they do not want to get married until they
have a steady job or a career. In the 1960s, men got
married on average at the age of 23 and women at the
age of 20. Today, however, men are getting married for
the first time at the age of 28 and women at the age of 26.
