What We've Lost

Hunters began killing large numbers of passenger

pigeons and selling them as food. The pigeons were

shot, knocked to the ground with sticks, and smoked

to come together in a group
                                                                                                                                v.
                                                                                                                              gathered
out of trees. Because so many birds gathered in each

tree, trapping them with nets was easy.
