ֵמִניַח ֶאת ַהְקָעָרה ַעל ַהֻׁשְלָחן. ַהַמצֹות ִּתְהֶייָנה
ְמגלֹות ִּבְׁשַעת ֲאִמיַרת ַהַהָּגָדה
ָהיִינוּ לְ ַפ ְרעֹה ְבּ ִמ ְצ ָריִם, וַיּוֹ ִצי ֵאנוּ יי
ֱאלֹ ֵהינוּ ִמ ָשּׁם ְבּיָד ֲחזָ ָקהוּ ִבזְרוֹ ַענְטוּיָה.
וְ ִאלּוּ לֹא הוֹ ִציא ַה ָקּדוֹשׁ ָבּרוּךְ הוּא
ֶאת ֲאבוֹ ֵתינוּ ִמ ִמּ ְצ ָריִם, ֲה ֵרי ָאנוּ וּ ָבנֵינוּ וּ ְבנֵי ָבנֵינוּ ְמ ֻשׁ ְע ָבּ ִדים ָהיִינוּלְ ַפ ְרעֹה ְבּ ִמ ְצ ָריִם.
וַ ֲא ִפילוּ ֻכּלָנוּ ֲח ָכ ִמים, ֻכּלָנוּנְבוֹנִים, ֻכּלָנוּזְ ֵקנִים, ֻכּלָנוּיוֹ ְד ִעים ֶאת ַהתּוֹ ָרה, ִמ ְצוָה ָעלֵינוּ לְ ַס ֵפּר ִבּי ִצי ַאת ִמ ְצ ַריִם.וְ ָכל ַה ַמ ְר ֶבּהלְ ַס ֵפּר ִבּי ִצי ַאת ִמ ְצ ַריִם ֲה ֵריזֶה ְמ ֻשׁ ָבּח.
The tray is restored to its place with the matzah partly uncovered. Now we say “We were slaves. . .”
BeCAUSE
WE were slaves
to Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord, our God, took us out from there with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm. If the Holy One, blessed be He, had not taken our fathers out of Egypt, then we, our children and our children’s children would have remained enslaved to Pharaoh in Egypt. Even if all of us were wise, all of us understanding, all of us knowing the Torah, we would still be obligated to discuss the exodus from Egypt; and everyone who discusses the exodus from Egypt at length is praiseworthy.
