HELLO & WELCOME
Message from the Chief Executive Officer
It is a great pleasure to introduce this month’s newsletter in my new role as CEO of SA
Chamber (UK). My first month has been an intense period of learning, adjusting and
slowly meeting the incredible SA Chamber (UK) community. I look forward to working with
the talented management team to lead the Chamber to greater levels of growth.
It seems fitting to use rugby comparisons for this message, considering last weekend’s
semi-final World Cup rugby victory for South Africa. In a recent interview, SA National
team Captain Siya Kolisi said, “we play for something far bigger than ourselves; we play
for a country that is going through a lot of battles, but we have got such resilient people
who are hard-working and don’t give up.” Whether or not you are a rugby fan, it seems a
fitting message to carry with us.
We have a diverse and interesting range of articles in this newsletter, from the changing
face of work and how employers are still adjusting their mind-sets to the new environment
[PAGE 19], to 10 reasons to invest in the Western Cape and the regional government’s
bold new economic growth strategy [PAGE 13], as well as a profile of a KZN non-profit
initiative that is supporting fatherless adolescent boys and young men to unlock their
potential [PAGE 14 ]. You can also access a 10% discount to biltong, boerewors and other
South African delights, through our 10% member’s discount to The South African Shop
[PAGE 17].
There has also been sad news this month, with the passing away of a dear friend of the
Chamber, Sir Nick Stadlen [PAGE 4]. A great man, who contributed so much to South
Africa’s anti-apartheid history.
GO BOKKE
WE’RE BACKING YOU
ALL THE WAY!
