In everyday life, greeting is expression that is almost always used by
people when they meet someone they know or they don't know. The
expression of greeting is usually used at the beginning of a conversation or
before starting the main topic. You must often hear or say the words Hi and
Hello to greet other people, and also say the phrase "How are you?" to ask
how we are when we meet someone, right? Well, that's what is called
Greeting. The following is an expression of the greeting and its response.
Expressions of Greeting Responses
Hi Hi
Hello Hello
Good morning Good morning
Good afternoon Good afternoon
Good evening Good evening
How are you? I am fine/great. Thank you
How’s life? It’s pretty good, thanks.
How do you do? (For first meeting) How do you do?
Actually, greeting expressions are divided
into two, namely formal and informal
expressions. Formal greetings are usually used
when you don't know the person or when you are talking
to a person of high authority. Meanwhile, informal
greetings are used with family, friends, and other
people you know well.
- Formal greeting: hello, good
morning/afternoon/evening, how are you?, etc.
- Informal greeting: hi, hey, how’s life, etc.
