A. Introduction

1. Brief Description

This teaching material will explain general material that is mostly
used in writing skills, namely describing something in English. In

decribing something, of course, there is a process that should be
followed in order to make a good writing, especially a descriptive text.
People, places, or even things are kinds of objects that are usually
being described. In this teaching material, there will be information
regarding the definition, the function, the characteristics, the generic
structure, as well as the language features used in its text.
Furthermore, readers may also get some information regarding tips
and trick in creating a good descriptive text.

2. Relevance

This module as a teaching material consists of several material
regarding describing something in English, namely a learning about
descriptive text, which will be explained in detail about the definition
of the text, the social function which refers to the purpose of creating
the text, also the characteristics of the text. Furthermore, it will be
also explained about the generic structure, as well as the language
features of a descriptive text. Therefore, after learning this module,
students are hoped to be able to know and understand what is a
descriptive text, and how to create the text in a good structure and
language, especially in English.

3. Learning Guidance

The objectives of this learning are to be able to help the students to
understand and know in detail regarding a descriptive text, also able
to identify the social function and characteristics of the text, as well
as able to analyze the generic structures and the language features of
the text. In addition, students are also be able to create a good
descriptive text, based on the instruction that will be given in this
module. Below are several learning guidance that can be followed to

learn this module, such as:
Understand each of the learning components, starting from the
beggining until the end of the components.
Understand the main dan supporting component by reading and
interpreting it.
Read various other learning resources that are relevant to the
material being studied.
