DEFINITION

Descriptive text can be called also as a descriptive paragraph. It can be
simply defined as an English writing text that gives details about what
someone (a person) or something ( a thing) is like. It usually aims to
describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing. The writer of a
description text often uses this text to bring his/her writing to life by
forming a vivid image in the reader’s mind.

According to Kane's explanation (2000: 352), description text is
described as follows: It is all about the senses, how something feels,
sounds, and smells. Although description mostly deals with visual
perception, it also touches on other types of perception. Then, Pardiyono
(2007: 34) cited in Sumarsih and Sanjaya (2013: 108) says that description
paragraph is a type of written text paragraph used to describe about an
object (living or non-living) things and it has the aim that is giving
description of the object to the reader clearly

Therefore, it can be stated that the descriptive text is a text that
explains about whether a person or an object is like, whether its form, its
properties, its amount and others. The purpose is to describe, represent or
reveal a person or an object, either abstract or concrete.
