                   Memory Of T he World
                        Asia-Pasific

The Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for the Memory of the
World Programme (MOWCAP) was established in 1998 to
support the implementation of the Memory of the World
Programme in the Asia-Pacific region. Globally, the Memory of
the World Programme has several regional committees—
MOWCAP (Asia-Pacific), MOWLAC (Latin America and the
Caribbean), MOWAR (Arab States), MOWCI (Africa), and
MOWEUR (Europe), each responsible for managing
nominations and promoting the preservation of documentary
heritage within their respective regions. Indonesia is a member
of MOWCAP, as it is geographically located in Southeast Asia.

The participants of MOWCAP comprise 43 countries
with diverse political systems, languages, cultures,
                  and economic conditions. The organization
promotes awareness of the importance of
                  documentary heritage, enhances access and
                  preservation efforts, encourages the establishment
of National MOW Committees, manages the Regional
Register of Documentary Heritage, and evaluates
                  new nominations every two years.
