     Chapter 6
                                                  Instant-Weave
                   Invention:
All of the above are inventions created by Black hairdressers. They are
techniques that I have learnt and can not take any credit for. They have
my utmost respect. Also, techniques with chemical straightened hair such
as finger waves, and loops created using two tail combs.
Invention is hard work, the image of waking up at 2am in the morning
and saying “Urika!!! I have got it” and I am a millionaire by lunch time
the next day just does not happen.
So how does it happen? I am not saying this is the right way to invent
something, as far as I know there is no handbook on how to invent
something, so this is the technique I developed.
First identify what it is that you want to invent, and then research the
patent database to make sure that your idea does not already exist, if it
does not, and then ask yourself the commercial questions, is there a need
for this product? Can I make it at a realistic price? How will I market it?
Is it something one of the big hairdressing companies would be interested
in marketing for me? Could I market it myself? Could I get a research
and development grant from the DTI? Finally, if you decide to proceed
you are going to need information about the market that your product is
                   about to replace.
