Curly Perm
Curly Perm:
The best way I can describe a curly perm is that it is a double chemical
process, that is to say a normal perm the same as for Caucasians carried
out on previously relaxed hair.
Curly perm kits supply a gel type chemical that you apply to the hair first,
comb through to relax the natural hair, once the hair is manageable wind
it onto permanent wave curlers, after a curl pattern appears rinse and
neutralise, then remove the rods, shampoo, condition and comb through.
While the hair is still wet you will notice a nice big curl pattern. If you
allow it to dry naturally or if you dry it under infra red lamps the curl will
disappear and the hair will revert to a loose frizz.
You will find that once you damp it down again and comb it through the
big curls will appear again, so it seemed that as long as the hair stayed in
this wet state the big curls would remain.
So those clever chemists devised oil sprays, so you could spray the whole
head with oil, which gives the hair the appearance of being wet. Thereby,
keeping the appearance of nice big curls that could not revert to frizz, all
the time that the oil sprays were in the hair.
