Chapter 6
Curling
Human hair manufacturers use two methods to curl hair:
The first method is with permanent wave solution, which is basically the
same as that for any hairdressing salon but adapted for bulk processing.
The complete hair wefts are wound onto nylon rods or Bamboo poles,
immersed in a vat of permanent wave solution, after the desired
processing time the wefts are rinsed, and then neutralised, then finished
by laying out on trays in the hot room, to allow them to dry naturally. The
second method is a steam curl; this method is very technical and involves
the use of a machine that dispenses very high-pressure steam to the hair
that is wound around metal rods. This process does not involve the use of
any chemicals, which makes it possible to curl hair that has been
bleached from off black to white blonde. Although at present this process
only gives a semi permanent curl that lasts for about 25 shampoos,
research is extending this all the time to try to make this method
permanent. Steam curl products vary from factory to factory depending
on their research and development department, in some hair the curl will
only last for 5 shampoos where as in others the curl may last up to 25
shampoos. Try to buy only Remi hair permanently or steam curled
products, as they are less likely to be over processed thereby looking soft
and natural without any tangling, also this chemically or steam processed
Remi hair will shampoo comb through and dry naturally without any
tangles.
