Read and listen to the DIDIYOU KNOW...?
poem. Which sound The largest, and loudest, musical
doesn't the writer like? instrument in the world is a pipe
organ in a music hall in the USA. It's
got more than 33,000 pipes, and it's six
times louder than a steam-train whistle!
Sounds I love to hear
I love to hear my cat meowing because it
means she wants me to cuddle her.
I love to hear the 'ding-dong' of the
doorbell ringing because it means we
have a visitor.
I love to hear my friends giggling because
it means they are happy and having fun.
I love to hear plates clattering in the
kitchen because it means dinner will be
ready soon.
I love to hear rain tapping on my window
because it makes me feel cosy and safe
inside.
But I hate to hear the cars zooming outside
because it makes me feel stressed.
Learning to write:
Underline the sound words in Sound words
the poem in Activity 1.
We use sound words to help the reader hear the
sounds you are writing about.
If we shake a tiny bell, we hear a high ring.
A baby's cry is louder than the honk of a car horn.
In pairs, brainstorm sounds that you love and sounds that you hate.
Explain why. Complete the table in your notebook.
