Jasmine, an eight-or nine-year old brindle and white Pit Bull, had a litter of six, ten-day old puppies. Her people worked 15 hours a day prior to my seeing this dog. They had blocked a room with a wooden door, to keep Jasmine in the room with her pups while they were away. When they returned home, they discovered that the dog had injuries and also would not let pups nurse one of her breasts.
On physical examination, this was a friendly dog with a very hard and significantly enlarged
second mammary gland (larger than the palm of my hand) that had a slight oozing of sero- sanguinous fluid, with ecchymosis. Her temperature was 101.5o F (38.6o C). I saw the dog at around 13.40 hours and the injuries had occurred the previous day sometime between 16.30 and 20.30; so the wounds were nearly 24 hours old, when I became involved. I dispensed Arnica 1M #12, to be given every 2 hours for 4 doses today, then twice daily for the next two days. I also dispensed Animals’ Apawthecary FidoDerm®, a topical spray containing aloe, calendula, tea tree oil, lavender oil, carrot seed oil to be sprayed on Jasmine’s
