Nick Thompson announced that the 2016 Congress will be held 9 to 11 September 2016 at Baths Spa University. He assured us that printed proceedings would be available. Or I shall cry.
Tom Farrington opened the academic portion of the conference, substituting for president Jane Keogh, who unfortunately was unable to attend. Tom spoke on Flexibility in Practice, discussing how Hahnemann clearly was a flexible chap, writing six different editions of his Organon. We can be flexible in our prescribing by being open to many approaches, and studying remedies, so that we can employ them in all aspects and potencies. Tom illustrated how this may be put into practice, using tissue salts and organ remedies, for instance, right along classical prescribing; giving to the patient what they require.
Stefan Kohlrausch presented on both Friday and Sunday afternoons. He dealt with new remedies, and how their pictures are elucidated. There is a difficulty in finding information about some of these remedies; some older remedies are over-represented in our repertories, by comparison. Stefan has
elucidated the appropriate remedy for patients through toxicology (Strichinum for a guinea pig) toxicology and repertorisation (Plumbum for a seagull), repertorisation and materia medica (Arg nit for a gorilla). Some of the fascinating cases Stefan presented were treated with Mouse, Cepaea, Gorilla, and Dragonfly. Stefan also discussed how administering a nosode to sound, prepared by potentising a solution exposed to that sound which is important to the individual, can open up a case.
Nick Thompson discussed the treatment of autism in dogs, building on Tinus Smits work with children. Like autistic children, these animals are socially impaired, and may exhibit signs similar to their human counterparts; as in children, autism may be associated with vaccination. The FB group, Canine Autism Spectrum Disorder helps support people with these dogs. These dogs can improve greatly with detox protocols using potentised vaccines or drugs, supplements, and diet. Nick encouraged us to consider these methods when we see dogs manifesting signs suggestive of autism.
Our last speaker on Friday afternoon was Myriam French. Myriam poignantly discussed the problem of stress in the veterinary workplace, which can lead to illness, burnout, and even death. She encouraged discussion of ways that we can help and support each other through difficult times.
Linda Johnston and Frans Vermeulen work and reside in Los Angeles, and they teamed up on Saturday and Sunday morning to present the Asteraceae family. Frans presented the plant family information and the materia medica, showing how the remedies are related to one another in tribes, and what themes run through tribes. Linda fleshed out the remedy families with case histories. This was an in depth look at a plant family that is important in
